How Digital Gauge researches, evaluates, updates, and presents technical information, buying guidance, and measurement advice.

Digital Gauge publishes independent information intended to help readers understand digital gauges, interpret specifications, compare options, choose suitable equipment, use instruments correctly, and diagnose measurement problems. The editorial goal is usefulness and clarity rather than promoting a particular manufacturer or product.
What we publish
Digital Gauge covers the reader journey from learning a concept to choosing, using, calibrating, and troubleshooting an instrument. Our content includes:
- Fundamentals: definitions and explanations of accuracy, resolution, range, full scale, gauge pressure, repeatability, hysteresis, drift, and related terminology.
- Working principles: explanations of how gauges, sensors, indicators, and measurement systems turn a physical quantity into a reading.
- Practical guides: setup, zeroing, installation considerations, calibration, unit conversion, routine use, calculators, and troubleshooting.
- Selection and buying content: guidance on relevant specifications, instrument types, application fit, features, and purchasing trade-offs.
The site is not limited to defining technical concepts. It aims to help readers move from understanding an instrument to making practical decisions about it.
Sources and technical accuracy
The appropriate source depends on the claim. For foundational measurement concepts, we prioritize national metrology institutes, standards organizations, recognized technical literature, educational engineering sources, and primary technical documentation. For device-specific facts, we prioritize official datasheets, product and installation manuals, calibration documentation, and published technical specifications.
Manufacturer documentation may be the primary source for facts about that manufacturer’s product. A documented specification, however, is different from a marketing claim. We make reasonable efforts to trace technical claims to suitable sources and distinguish general principles from device-specific information. We do not imply peer review, professional-engineer review, or independent verification of every specification.
Where practical, articles use contextual links or a Sources or References section so important sources are discoverable. Sources should support the claims made; long citation lists are not added merely to create an appearance of authority. When a specification is available in primary manufacturer documentation, that documentation is generally preferred over a secondary repetition.
Buying guides and product comparisons
Buying guides are intended to identify application fit, not a universal “best” product. Depending on the task, an evaluation may consider measurement range, accuracy, resolution, measurement principle, reference type, environmental conditions, ingress protection, wetted materials, process connection, mounting, display, logging, connectivity, calibration requirements, intended application, and price or value when reliable pricing is available.
Different applications can legitimately require different instruments. A higher specification is not automatically better when its capability is unnecessary. We therefore prefer language such as “better suited for” or “a stronger option when” over unsupported universal rankings.
Research-based evaluation is clearly distinguished from genuine hands-on testing. If a guide relies on datasheets, manuals, published specifications, manufacturer documentation, or third-party technical sources, it is described accordingly. We do not invent firsthand use, laboratory results, or test findings. If hands-on testing is conducted in the future, the article should explain what was tested, the procedure and relevant equipment, and the test’s practical limitations.
Product comparisons separate documented facts from editorial interpretation. For example, a manufacturer’s stated accuracy is a specification; explaining which application may benefit from it is interpretation. Specifications based on percent of full scale, percent of reading, or percent of span are not treated as directly equivalent without explanation. Products are not ranked solely from marketing language, and manufacturer descriptions are not copied as comparison analysis.
Independence and commercial relationships
Digital Gauge is currently an independent technical information site. It does not manufacture digital gauges and does not currently represent a particular gauge manufacturer. Product and brand references may appear when they help explain technology, specifications, applications, buying decisions, or meaningful differences between instruments. Their inclusion does not imply an endorsement or a commercial relationship.
If Digital Gauge introduces affiliate links, sponsored material, supplied products, or another commercial relationship in the future, relevant disclosures will be provided where they apply. Sponsored or partner material will not be presented as ordinary independent editorial content without disclosure.
AI and automated tools
Digital Gauge may use automated systems and AI-assisted tools to organize research, summarize source material, structure drafts, improve clarity, assist with formatting, or identify related topics. AI-generated output is not treated as a technical source. Technical claims should rely on the underlying documentation or source material rather than the AI system itself.
These tools must not be used to invent test results, product specifications, citations, professional experience, manufacturer statements, or standards requirements. Their use does not create expertise or replace the need to represent the available evidence honestly.
Updates and corrections
Technical content can change when manufacturer specifications or product models change, documentation or standards are updated, an error is discovered, or stronger source material becomes available. Meaningful revisions may update the page’s lastmod value. Trivial formatting edits should not automatically change the visible last-modified date.
When a factual error is identified, the underlying content should be corrected rather than knowingly preserved. A significant correction may include a brief update note when that context helps readers understand the change. Readers can submit corrections, conflicting source material, outdated information, and source suggestions through the Contact page.
Technical and safety limitations
Digital Gauge provides educational and technical reference material. General articles cannot account for every instrument, process, installation, calibration system, regulatory requirement, or operating environment. Device-specific instructions and limits should be checked against the applicable manufacturer’s documentation.
For measurements involving safety, regulatory compliance, legal metrology, process protection, calibrated quality systems, or critical equipment, readers should also follow applicable standards, procedures, calibration requirements, site rules, and regulatory requirements. Digital Gauge content can help explain a technical issue, but it does not override the procedures governing a particular application.
